A lack of drivers has caused various delays. Washington Township parents have also been frustrated with the district’s transportation department this fall. Only 9% of Black students in grades 3-8 passed the math and English Language Arts portion of the state exam - compared to nearly 54% of their white classmates. The district faces ongoing concern over its achievement gap. Forty-one percent of students were Black, 20% were Hispanic and nearly 54% identified as low-income. The district on the northside of Indianapolis had over 10,800 students during the 2020-2021 academic year.
